New Release, The Divine Teat - And 7 1/2 Other Outrageous Self-Help Principles,
Lightens and Enlightens Readers in Hilarious Spoof on Self-Help Niche
Los Angeles - - - - It’s said that laughter is the best medicine. So, it stands to reason a book that combines comedy with personal development may result in a deliciously transformative and equally entertaining literary experience. And such is most definitely the case in The Divine Teat - And 7 1/2 Other Outrageous Self-Help Principles by stand-up comedian and actor, Thomas L. Christensen - whose alter-ego, singing German life coach Jürgen Liebedich, is given the author credit.
The title and author alone give a hint to the light and enlightened tone of the 20-page coffee-table book, also available in e-book. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, Liebedich follows a typical self-help guide’s format as he outlines each of his seven and a half principles and how to achieve the associated levels of heightened self-awareness and inner peace. The photographs, which are a mix of silly, risqué and downright wacky, add to the hilarity and bring each concept to life. The book also takes a playful swipe at social media, Netflix, online shopping and other cultural staples and rarely misses a chance to take topics on tangents that titillate, pun intended.
Yet, behind the humor is a serious message. Afterall, Christensen is not unlike many comedians before him in that he turned to his craft as a way to cope with his own inner demons and bouts with depression. He first created his Liebedich character several years ago and has since launched a successful one-man show – i.e. live seminar - starring his alter ego who pokes fun at the self-help niche while light-heartedly acknowledging and even encouraging yoga, meditation and spiritual healing.
“The next obvious step for Liebedich as a life coach was to write a book. I chose the coffee table format so that the book was a visible reminder to people to practice self-care but not take themselves too seriously. Its for anyone who needs a little “Ha Ha and Aha” in their life,” said Christensen. “My loftier goal is to help make spiritual comedy a new genre. I know firsthand that being able to find a laugh in even the most serious situations can quite literally be a life-changer.”

"Not missing a trick, Thomas Christensen gently and hilariously parodies that bane of LA existence: the life coach. In fact, the more you know of the subject matter, the more you will laugh."
"A book full of profound insight and ideas laced with humor, motivation and wisdom. I refer to my copy constantly” Greg Berman
"A warm, very funny, extremely enjoyable spoof on self-help seminars, but it is never mean or cynical. Thomas Christensen parodies while also clearly being filled with love for humanity. It's an excellent performance... and wow can he also sing!"
"When I read about this show, I was intrigued by the name of the play, "The Divine Teat", and the subject matter as well. My husband and I went to see the show and had a blast. The actor and writer, Thomas Christensen, was fabulous, and the character he created, this enlighted motivational speaker/life coach, Jurgen Liebedich, was hysterical. It takes alot for me to actually laugh out loud, but I certainly did during his performance. More people need to know about this guy, and I HIGHLY recommend it for a fun evening!"
